I am trying to start free lancing with wedding photography. The camera I am using will be a Nikon D80 with Photshop CS2. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what lens, flash and anyother things i could use for this, Aswell as any tips or techniques on shooting and editing.

I would consider myself a fairly serious amateur photographer and have mainly shot landscapes. My friend saw some photos that I had taken and asked if I could take her wedding pictures. I told her that I was in no way a professional and that I could not guarantee the "perfect" wedding portraits. She said that she knew that and wanted me to take them anyway. Now I am wondering what type of lighting and lenses would best suit wedding photography. I can probably think of some things but I just thought I would ask so that I don't miss anything that would make my pictures better than they would be otherwise. Thank you for your help.

I've been a photographer for some years, but only nature/wildlife, with a little bit of street. I was wondering, what is the best way to get into the wedding photography business? Also, does it make a difference that I use film, not digital? I'm not new to film or photography, I've got it all down and I'm used to my main three cameras, and know everything there is to know about these specific cameras, and how to get good tones and shots from them.

No one is calling, I can't afford the $1,000 -$1600 to enter bridal shows. I know word of mouth is the best way but when you don't have a customer base what do you do? I have been asked to be the photographer at a friends wedding. I have the kodak P850 and would like to get another lenses. Do you think a wide angle or a telephoto lense would get more use for wedding photography?

Found advice on here about trying to start a wedding photography business. The advice I found was do not get a business license at first and try a couple of weddings and see if you are going to stick with it or not. All may not agree on it but my question is in California it sounds like the total price charged is taxable. Is that correct? Then if so how do you report sales tax if you don't have a license? And if the reply is don't then I would ask about my bank, they opened us a business checking account without a business license and or fictitious name. Does the bank report income deposited into that to any one? I am only asking in case this business does not take off what do I do about sales tax?

New wedding photography business in California. If I charge labor only for wedding shoots and give pictures and cd disks away no charge do i need to worry about paying California for sales tax? I was planning on paying sales tax when I purchased the items and giving them away as no charge/free so California would still get the sales tax.
