We mainly use 24-70 mm f/2.8 and 70-200 mm f/2.8
Both Nikon and Canon make such lenses
From time to time we use extra long lenses for a certain look, like a 400 mm or 600 mm lens, but the last time I used a longer lens was over five years ago. Answer 2
A 24-70 (2.8) or a 70-200 (2.8) with Stabilizer are both great choices, but it really depends on the TYPE of fashion photography you are looking to shoot. Also, what kind of look you are going for. For more "portrait" style fashion shoots, a fixed 85mm (1.8) or (1.4) lens tends to work the best for me.
Fixed lenses tend to be sharper, due to the fewer pieces of glass that the light has to travel through, and it can give you a much softer background. These lenses also tend to be a bit smaller. The only downside? They do not offer zoom. But again, if you are posing the model, you can use what we like to call the Two Foot Zoom feature... you have two feet... so YOU are the zoom!
But again, sharpness, soft background, and overall color saturation are things that a fixed lens will enhance.
Side Note - If you are using a full frame camera, a fixed 50mm might work a bit better for you than the 85. Answer 3
85-105 lenses are considered the best for portraiture and fashion.
You can also get amazing results with a wide or ultra-wide angle lens.
There's a Tokina 17mm on eBay that I have my eye on at the moment. Answer 4
