make a calendar of them, for every month choose a holiday or seasonal props that work. i did this for my oldest two a few years ago, it came out really good.

try lighting effects for example you could shoot in black in white with a lamp as the only source of light right next to them but forward slightly. but out of shot another idea is instead of them both looking at the camera try and get them looking at each other actually when i look at my family albums i always wonder what sort of things i did when i was that age so maybe you could take photos of them doing the things they often do

Check out your local library. They will have a bunch of books covering portraiture of babies and children. Plenty of good ideas to start you off there.
