You're right, photography is a great hobby. There are some who have made a good career of it but they are a small percentage.
If you're interested in trying to sell some of your pictures, go to the library and look for books on how and where to sell your pictures. These are reference guides that list companies that accept unsolicited work and what criteria you must meet.
Good luck. Answer 2
A good site is www.photonet.com Answer 3
Are these your photos? These are great! If you're photographing buildings or houses, you could get into real estate photography, and I know there's demand for that if you find the right niche. I've been trying to sell myself as a photographer for real estate lately, and I've been advertising / replying to demands for it on Craigslist.com. No jobs have come of it yet, but maybe you live in a bigger city than I do, where demand for that kind of stuff is greater. I live in St. Louis MO.
You can try getting in touch with any real estate agents and seeing if they have connections for anyone looking for photographers. Answer 4
Your work is beautiful! You could definately make some money off of it. I just had a friend who sold one of her nature pieces for $250. There's a coffee shop downtown that displays the work of artists and sells it for them. They take 10% of the profit, which isn't too bad. Just look around.
I could also see you getting into architectural photography as well. Answer 5
Yes, with about the same frequency of every teenager who aspires to be a rock star or a major league athlete.
You're right about it being a great hobby. However, if you ever do a subject search for a willow tree on Google images, for example, you'll find hundreds of shots, many of them very nice.
The money for making it a career is in stock images, weddings, fashion, advertising, journalism, etc. Unless you know someone in the business, it requires hard work, effective self-promotion, and years of effort.
You have some nice stuff on your web site. Don't give up the day job. Who knows, you might luck out some day. Answer 6
It's not as unlikely as people like to say it is but I don't think it's something you can do on the side, it's a lot of work and you'll probably spend 4 years (after your done with school) losing money before your in the black. You really have to be a self motivated person. << GO BACK to questions
