If you were allowed to carry only one lens, which one would you pick. And why?

Leica Tri Elmar 28 35 50
Not a true zoom, none of the focal lengths are quite as good as the equivalent primes, but really really good.
Only down side is I need 160 or 200 ISO film, due to the limited aperture (f 4 - ish)
Otherwise, the 35mm Summilux f 1,4 never leaves my bag - it is truly scrumptious (only £2400 second hand now - mine was around £1400 when new, so an investment as well) Answer 2
I use to carry just one lens and just one camera; even I remember traveling without any. A 50 mm is lovely. A doubt about if that or a wide angle is reasonable, but not a zoom for me. About the why, it depends on your choices and what you want to photograph. Photography is for me what you see, not what you need seing Answer 3
I would carry the 70-300 mm lens from nikon.2.8. Answer 4
Probably the 18-200 vr. Answer 5
I bought my Tamron 17-50mm zoom as a reasonable all purpose lens for my Pentax DSLRs. The wide end is good for groups and scenery while the 50mm on an APS-C sensor makes it a short telephoto focal length. So it should cover most situations.
The lens is reasonably light and compact for a quality F2.8 (wide aperture ) lens so it easy to carry.

i'd pick a Tamron 18-270mm Answer 7
The kit lens. Why? Because it's all there and I don't mind walking to get my shot right. Answer 8
An ultra wide angle, such as the Sigma 10-20. Great for landscapes and buildings. Answer 9
for film, 28-90mm
for digital, 18-55mm
Not my favorite necessarily, but the most useful. Answer 10
If I had to pick one, it would be my 24-70. Although that is the least favorite of all my lenses, it is incredibly versatile.
I usually shoot travel stuff with a very wide (16-35) or relatively long (70-200) lens.
