Canon 450D is the DSLR camera. Usually, the DSLR camera gives better image quality that the point and shoot camera. If you can afford it, go for it. However, I think the point-and-shoot might be enough for food photography. It would save you several hundred bucks. One thing to keep in mind is the macro focus range. It's the minimum distance between your digicam and a subject that your camera can take in-focus images. For example, if the camera has macro focus range of 3cm., it means you can have a clear shot when your camera is far from the subject at least 3cm. Obviously, the shorter range the better. I would recommend the PowerShot A2100. Its macro focus range is only 1cm. PS. the DSLR has no macro focus range by itself, it's up to the lens you put on the camera.
