What is the Wise digital photography method?

I am looking for advice on learning digital photography and found this term. Has anyone used the Wise method of photography and if so, would it help me to learn how to be a professional photographer with my digital camera?

Answer 1

It's used to make sure you always don't screw up with previous settings that you forget to change... W- White Balance check I - ISO check S - ??? E- Exposure check

Answer 2

I've never heard of "wise" before, let alone, it being a good method of learning photography. I guess, in the same way the phrase "never eat shredded wheat" was a good way to learn the compass (in elementary school), this method could be beneficial. But I think it's just best to learn the way You feel works best for YOU.

It's basically a campy way to remember to check your: W - WHITE BALANCE: To compensate for the color of the ambient light. I - ISO: sensor/film sensitivity to light S - SCENE SELECTION: Your are telling the camera what type of scene you are shooting so it can automate some settings. E - EXPOSURE COMPENSATION: Adjusting for too much or little light. The idea isn't horrible but it's all about the auo modes. To REALLY learn photography you need to move off the automodes (scene selection) and go itno manual and learn about the light triumvate: ISO: How sensitive your sensor is to light Shutter Speed: How long you expose your sensor to light Aperture: How wide you open your lens so that more or less light reach the sensor. Once you've managed that and once you start shooting in RAW mode, the WISE system become completely useless. You master those 3 settings and then YOU tell the camera what to do instead of letting it figure out what it thinks it should do (aka.: Scene Selection). I guess WISE is a good thing for people shooting with Point and Shoots that don't have manual mode ... I guess ... but to really become a good photographer you need to break away from the auto modes.
