I was asked to photograph a 3-month trip around Asia and Africa and I have NO idea where to start researching information as far as travel photography. ANY advice would be great as far as equipment, guides, personal travel advice, etc.

try: http://www.photo.net for articles on travel photography and ideas. as far as equipment: a camera thats easy/intuitive to use..lenses to cover many situations {from very wide angle to a reasonable telephoto} and a willingness to go with the flow as some great shots come when you least expect it. I envy your trip..sounds like a lot of fun.
