Small personal business? jewelry, digital photography, etc.?

I want to start selling the jewelry I make and photographs I take. Do I need a small business license? If so, about how much do they cost? Should I choose a practical major in college (i'm in my second year) and work on the business on the side, or should I choose an artistic major to further my product -- if I do that, though, I may end up penniless! haha

You need to take classes on both. If the design is your passion, major in that. The business side is all factual, so that is hard data you can learn later on. I'm a graphic designer. I majored in design and focused on design when I was in school, to culitvate my talents. As electives, i took business classes. When I found a job, I paid attention to how business was handled, so I learned the factual stuff that way. If i majored in business, then I would have been useless as a designer. You can't 'pick up creativity as you go'. As for liscensing, i don't think you need to worry until you start making some significant money. If you are just doing it as a hobby right now, don't worry about it.
