From my experience I highly suggest the 50D for jewelry photography.

you don't need the eos 50d for close up shot, 50d is more idea for fast movement, 50d cost nearly twice more than 500d. You just need a good lens for it. I suggest a 50mm 1.8d or 1.4 for it. It will gave you very nice photo picture. Answer 4
Any will work.
You have to worry about lighting, not the body. If you have a good macro lens, then, great.
A better body may take more resolution pictures, etc. But if lighting is crap, a more expensive body won't change it.
Instead of spending that extra buck for the 50D, spend it in lighting equipment. Answer 5
Neither or both. The camera does not matter. What will matter is the lens that you use. You will need a good macro lens and some lighting to get good jewelry shots.
I would get the cheaper camera and either the EFs 60mm F2.8 macro or the EF 100mm F2.8. A light tent and some lights would be a good idea as well. << GO BACK to questions
