Make a big effort to establish good rapport with your model so that he/she feels comfortable around you. If the model is experienced then he/she will already look confident and will not be afraid to jump right in, change up poses, and try out different poses or expressions at will. He/she won't need too much guidance other than minor things ("lift your chin up a bit")...If the model is a newbie, then that'll take a bit more work. Either way, get a sense of what he/she wants from the shoot and brainstorm from there. These links might help a bit: http://www.reactuate.com/2007/11/01/pgm-posing/ and http://www.reactuate.com/2005/09/18/a-photographers-guide-to-models/ If you'll be doing an outdoor shoot and it will be sunny out, try to avoid shooting out in the open during late morning-early afternoon when the sun will be highest. This will cause harsh shadows and will be harsh on the model's eyes (trying not to squint). Try moving to a bit of shade during those hours. Good luck!
