Can I go to glamour shots photography to get photos taken for my model portfolio?

I'm just starting my portfolio, is glamour shots a good place to get photos taken for my portfolio?

All Answers To Questions

Answer 1

Glamour shots would be a good place for your HEAD shot only. They are not set up for the other images you may end up needing. Good thing about them is you get the make up artist right there as part of the package. Just know you will need to go in ready for the sales pitch. Take the clothing YOU want to ware, have your hair style thought of and ready and make it clear that you are after a great head shot. Once you have the head shot I am sure you will find other pros out there to help you with more looks for your portfolio. If your with an AGENT then you should be set. If you going free lance then you should look into the on line listings like Model Mayhem and others.. just know you will get some creepers along with the good contacts.

No. That's like the fast food of portraits...and for a model port you need a big juicy steak off the grill....bad analogy maybe, but its true. GS is an in and out wham bam cookie cutter portrait. You need something with thought and skill behind it. Get in the yellow pages and find yourself a pro.

Answer 3

No. Quite a few modeling agencies specify "No Glamor Shots." If you are willing to invest your life in this (and if you want to be successful then, as with anything, a huge investment is required) then get off on the right foot by investing in some professional photos. I wouldn't even do head shots there. You will need lots of different things and different looks for a model portfolio, because you need to show how versatile you are. This is your career on the line here. Here's what you need at the very least: both close ups and long shots with a variety of looks: urban, casual, high fashion, etc., as well as head shots that make you look your absolute best. You need to do at least some of the shots on location. Glamor shots cannot and will not do this for you. Your best bet is to find someone who has done this kind of photos before, or at least a pro who can show you lots of photos with the look you would like.
